We would like to invite you to participate in an evaluation of WebCloud. WebCloud is a research project whose purpose is to design next-generation content distribution systems for Web. Setting up our system should take about 1 minute to complete.
We are asking you to participate in this study because you are a member of CCIS. You must be at least 18 years old to take part. The decision to participate in this research project is voluntary. You do not have to participate and you can refuse to participate. Even if you start using our system, you can stop at any time and uninstall it.
The risk to you, as a participant, is minimal, and comes in two forms. First, when you browse an image on www.ccs.neu.edu, WebCloud will be delivering the image. The primary risk is that a bug in WebCloud would prevent you from viewing the image. In order to mitigate this risk, you are free to uninstall WebCloud at any time. Second, WebCloud collects anonymized data about which images you browse. The primary risk is that you may not wish to let others know which images you are browsing. We therefore take two steps to address this risk: First, we immediately anonymize all logs, so that this browsing information cannot be inferred. Second, if you wish to stop using WebCloud, we provide simple, one-step uninstallation instructions on the following page.
Your part in this study is anonymous to the researchers. However, because of the nature of electronic systems, it is possible that respondents could be identified by the IP address or other electronic record associated with the response. Neither the researcher nor anyone involved with this study will be capturing those data. Any reports or publications based on this research will use only group data and will not identify you or any individual as being affiliated with this project.
If you have any questions regarding electronic privacy, please feel free to contact Mark Nardone, IT Security Analyst via phone at 617-373-7901, or via email at privacy@neu.edu. If you have any questions about this study, please check the project page and feel free to contact Alan Mislove, amislove@ccs.neu.edu, the person mainly responsible for the research. If you have any questions regarding your rights as a research participant, please contact Nan C. Regina, Director, Human Subject Research Protection, 960 Renaissance Park, Northeastern University, Boston, MA 02115. Tel: 617.373.7570, Email: irb@neu.edu. You may call anonymously if you wish.
By setting up WebCloud, you are indicating that you consent to participate in this study. If you do not consent, simply close this browser window.
